The verb speculate is typically followed by the prepositions about, on or upon. In finance, one speculates in land, gold, commodities or stocks but one speculates on the stock market.
- With a downturn in the American economy, many are speculating about how severely the Canadian dollar will be affected.
- The attorney refused to speculate upon (or on) the outcome of the trial.
- Petra enjoys speculating in real estate.
- My broker advised me to speculate on the stock market with only the money I could afford to lose.
